ABOUT PIOUS MAGAZINE
Pious magazine was created in order to shed light on the incoming world of fashion. With current times being what they are, and the world of fashion evolving and developing around us, it’s crucial we look at local brands to stay relevant. This magazine investigates invigorating designers who are using their social influence to cause change in the fashion community. As well as analysing mainstream fashion and reporting on all news that influences what we wear.
Ethan Azzopardi is an aspiring fashion journalist and admittedly, a harsh critic. From weaving baskets at after school care while growing up in Fiji, he now spends time ‘people watching’ the everyday catwalk of life. People dressed from their personal wardrobes, and not from those of a couturier. Ethan is inspired by a sustainable fashion industry and the world of mens wear, he believes the future of fashion is dependent on up-and-coming designers who take inspiration from their lives and
International fashion houses.

'Fashion should be a perfect mix between masculine and feminine’; interpret that how you wish but in my opinion no matter who is getting dressed these two elements are fundamental! I think it was raiding my mum’s wardrobe and my grandma’s art that brought me to my love of fashion, paired with the fact they are the two most influential women in my life: my inspirations. I called my grandma when starting designs for my own brand; SIBLEY (coming soon…) to go through every drawing and painting she has ever made. I’m fixated by the feel of fabrics, so at my internship with BIANCA SPENDER, when sorting through the rolls of silks and cotton jerseys, I’m feeling grateful for every opportunity that comes my way and beyond excited for the future.

Forget fast fashion and embrace your wardrobe staples. Whilst easier said than done, it is a sentiment I come back to often and has proven to serve me well in the evolution of my own style. For me, these include a good pair of flares, my Doc Marten loafers and a set of gold hoops. I come back to these pieces time and time again because well, they make me feel good. Fashion can be just as much about the clothes, as it is about the way they make you feel. As an art’s student, I’ve developed a keen interest in all things street style, and the unexpected joys of second-hand clothes stores. With creativity and the right attitude, all that is old can be made new again.
